Powell, Michael (Latham)
(30 sep. 1905, Bekesbourne, Kent, Inglaterra–19 feb. 1990, Avening, Gloucestershire).

Director de cine británico. En 1931 dirigió su primera película, Two Crowded Hours y posteriormente realizó más de 20 largometrajes de bajo presupuesto, antes de que Alexander Korda lo vinculara con el guionista Emeric Pressburger (n. 1902–m. 1988), quienes realizaron la exitosa El espía negro (1939). Powell y Pressburger formaron su propia compañía productora y filmaron películas como El ladrón de Bagdad (1940), Coronel Blimp (1943), A vida o muerte (1946), Narciso negro (1947), Las zapatillas rojas (1948) y Los cuentos de Hoffmann (1951). Después Powell realizó la controversial El fotógrafo del pánico (1960) sin la colaboración de Pressburger. Las películas de Powell se destacaron por el uso de colores brillantes, la fantasía y la experimental dirección de fotografía.
